Saighton has an exceptionally fine garden, laid out at the end of the 19th century. On the south side is a symmetrical pattern of high yew hedges forming terraces, with a view dramatically framed by two tall Lombardy poplars. The west garden is picturesque and incorporates curving paths, a lily pond and varied shrub borders.
In 1977 Abbey Gate College opened its doors as an independent day school with 62 pupils. Then eight years after its foundation gained Accreditation from the Independent Schools Joint Council. The College now is recognised as one of the best schools in the area and has approximately 400 pupils aged from 4 to 18
The College aims to provide children with a broad general education through GCSE and A Levels, to university, or other forms of higher education. It gives a firm foundation in the basic literacy and numeracy skills required for subsequent vocational training, with particular emphasis on opportunities for the world of work. Hence practical subjects are offered to balance the strong academic element in the curriculum.
A tower room has a painted beam bearing the motto Tu ne cede ma/is sed contra audentior Ito. This Victorian sentiment. 'Do not give way to difficulties but rather strive on boldly', forms the motto of the school which now uses the house.
