'Cadw' (pronounced cad-oo) is a Welsh word meaning 'to keep'.
Cadw is the historic environment service of the Welsh Assembly Government.
We aim to protect the historic environment of Wales by working with partners and private owners. This includes historic buildings, ancient monuments, historic parks, gardens and landscapes, and underwater archaeology.
There are ancient history sites such as standing stones, Burial Chambers, Roman sites, baths, amphitheatre, barracks, fortress walls and walled towns.
Many religious monuments and buildings such as Priories, Friaries, Abbeys, Churches and Chapels.
There are palaces, castles, gatehouses, cottages and town houses.
Also some industrial sites such as wells, ironworks and a furnaces.
