Castle Leslie has been the home of the Leslie family for over 300 years. Set on 1,000 acres of rolling parkland including three lakes and ancient Irish woodlands and parklands in County Monaghan. There are 6 gate lodges from gothic to cottage ornee, an 1840 cut stone model farm, a 1740's coaching yard, Ice house and ice ponds surrounded by 4 miles of wall. There is a church dating from the 1600s with crypt and graveyard, and locally there are two delightful disused Victorian railway stations, one complete with signal box.
The Castle has 100 rooms, which are very much as they always where, along with some unusual features, servants tunnels, bell system, Victorian lifts, sluice rooms and original bathrooms. There is also an equestrian centre on the estate with sidesaddle riders and a number of horse and carriages available locally including a horse drawn hearse.
On the Estate there are various accommodation options. The castle has 20 rooms, the 4* Hunting Lodge has 30 bedrooms, there are twelve 4 and 5 bedroom self-catering Village Cottages and twelve 2 bedroom mews that can accommodate cast and crew onsite. There are also many catering options available such as the restaurant in the Castle, the restaurant and bar in the Hunting Lodge and private dining. The estate has been used many times as a location, the most recent being Paddy Breathnach's 'Shrooms' (2006) and Brian Kirk's 'Middletown' (2006). Terence Ryan's film 'Puckoon' was filmed here in 2002 and the owner of Castle Leslie Estate Samantha Leslie's piercing scream was used in Nicolas Roeg's 'Puffball' (2007). We have also had numerous shots for documentaries, re-enactments done, the Discovery channel, news items including CNN, children's items and not forgetting the media circus surrounding the wedding of Paul Mc Carney to Heather Mills.
Camilla Leslie, sister of Samantha Leslie is a writer/producer. She wrote Buy Borrow Steal (Hamptons Screenplay Winner 2004) starring Heather Graham and Mia Kirshner. Formerly an advertising executive, she managed global accounts such as Levi's, Pepsi and Mars working in London, San Francisco and Paris before founding Blue Shutter Films in Ireland.
We thoroughly enjoy working with the media in all forms and apart from the photogenic nature of the place; crews have always commented on the flexible and friendly attitude at Castle Leslie.
