Filming at Newby Hall
Newby's award winning gardens, created in the early 1920's, have evolved over the years making a major contribution to 20th century gardening. Designed astride one of Europe's longest double herbaceous borders which slopes gently down to the River Ure, are numerous compartmented gardens - 'rooms' off a long corridor.
Newby Hall has been used as a location for a variety of productions. The house and its interiors and the beautiful grounds outdoors (whatever the season) are all ideal settings for costumed dramas, feature films and documentaries with ample hard standing for production company vehicles.
During March 2007 ITV's adaptation of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park was filmed entirely on location at Newby. With a cast of 50, filming took place throughout August and starring Billie Piper in the lead role as Fanny Price.
In October 2008 the house was once again used for the filming of a major American television series of the Daniel Defoe classic Robinson Crusoe, which stars the Yorkshire actor Sean Bean.
Other productions to have filmed at Newby Hall include Heart Beat, Ladettes to Ladies, The Falling and Bollywood.
