The Rural Life Centre
The Rural Life Centre is a museum of past village life covering the years from 1750 to 1960. It is set in over ten acres of garden and woodland and housed in purpose-built and reconstructed buildings including a chapel,
village hall, cricket pavilion and granary. Also newly arrived - a 1909 corrugated iron fully-furnished schoolroom and a small laundry shed. Displays show village crafts and trades such as wheelwrighting, blacksmithing and village shops.
Besides the items on display we have a comprehensive collection of items available for use as props, from hand tools and domestic items to agricultural machinery. There is also a 1960s village playground and a preserved two foot gauge light railway is maintained on site by an associated group.
The museum has its own catering facilities and a car park large enough for around 300 cars.
Rural Life Centre is a premier English village life museum and a registered museum. The Old Kiln Museum Trust is a registered charity
