Westenhanger castle and grounds have been in the ownership of the Forge family since 1996, undergoing continuous restoration by G.Forge limited. This property is a scheduled ancient monument with origins dating back to c1035. It is used, mainly in the Summer season for weekend weddings and open to the public for tourism on Tuesdays, this year from 5th April until 7th September.
The castle is convenient to Westenhanger mainline station one hour from London with a short walk (5 minutes) from the platform or by road on the M20 as far as junction 11 and then 2 miles following signs to Folkestone Racecourse. The Manor of Westenhanger comprises a large grade 1 listed house of partly 16th century origins, the ruins remains of a 14th century castle, a large stone circular tower converted to a dovecote, a reconstructed set of Tudor kitchens and a range of 16th century outbuildings. The inner keep is a lawned area partly surrounded by a stone curtain wall with a Visitor Centre and other facilities. The moat surrounding this area is dry at present but joins to 20 acres of parkland with mature trees with a small tributary of the River Stour flowing through. Page 1. Click for page 2/2
