Inveraray Jail

OLD PRISON 1820
Once the principal jail for the County of Argyll, it housed men, women and children, convicted and un-convicted prisoners, the sane and the insane.

NEW PRISON 1848
A model prison of the mid-19th century, it has twelve individual cells, a water closet on every floor and accommodation for warders.

AIRING YARDS 1843
These yards were built to provide a secure place where prisoners could be exercised individually in the open air.
